108 Shaktipeethas Introduction :- Shaktipeethas are the holy pilgrimages in Shaktism( The Goddess centric denomination in Hinduism). These Shaktipeethas are dedicated to various forms of Devi Aadi Parashakti. Various books tell us varying numbers of Shaktipeethas. As per Pitha Nirnayan Tanta, the number of the Shaktipeethas is 52. According to Varahi Tantra, the number is 26. As per Devi Bhagwat MahaPuran , The number of the Shaktipeethas is 108. Here is the story behind the Shaktipeethas. Once Devi Adi-parashakti took an incarnation as Dakshayani ( Sati), the daughter of Daksha. Sati loved Lord Shiv ( the form of Parampurusha ) and married him. Daksha didn't like him. So he insulted Sati in a yagna ceremony. Shiva became very angry when Sati committed suicide by insulting Daksha. As a result Mahadev destroyed the Dakshayagna.
