अक्षवक्ष्ये महादेवीं मातङ्गीं सर्वसिद्धिदाम् ।

अस्याः सेवनमात्रेण वासिद्धिं लभते ध्रुवम् ॥

In this year, Shyamala Navaratri will be held from 22th January to 30th January. Let's know about the facts of this Navaratri . Matangi is the center of this Navaratri. She is 9th Mahavidya. Matangi is also known as Tantrik Saraswati. So this Navaratri is also called Vidya Navaratri. On the Dashami Tithi, devotees arranged the marriage ceremony of Brahma and Saraswati. On the 5th day Maa Saraswati is worshipped. Matangi is goddess of knowledge, information, spirituality, Universe, energy and art.

Laghu Shyamala Dhyan Mantra 

माणिक्य वीणाम-उपलालयंतीम मदालसाम मंजुल वाग-विलासम 

महेंद्र नील द्युति कोमलांगीं मातंग कन्याम मनसा स्मारामि 

माणिक्य वीणामुपलालयन्तीं मदालसाम् मंजुल वाग्विलासाम् ।

इंद्र नील द्युति कोमलाङ्गीम् मातङ्ग कन्याम् मनसा स्मरामि ॥

Meaning:-  We meditate to the Divine Mother who skillfully plays a jewel studded Vīṇā. She is in a highly intoxicated spiritual state, appears extremely beautiful and charming. In this state, She utters very soft words that become melodious music. She appears very majestic and is dark green or blue complexioned with a well proportionate body. She is the daughter of saint Mataṅga. May we meditate upon Her in our mind and consciousness.

Story :- When Sage Matanga worshipped Devi, she appeared as Raja Shyamala and on his wish she became his daughter by taking form of laghu matangi, thus she is named as matanga kanyaka, she is 12 years old, in form of a girl who just attained her puberty, wearing a white garment with red stripes on it, holding a classical lute called Veena and a skull cup filled with honey collected from flowers, her complexion is of Emaralds, her huge eyes are intoxicated due to honey/ wine, her smile is enchanting everyone, she is wearing earrings made of clinch shells, garlands of gunja seeds, pearls and gold, she also wears peacock feathers in some forms, residing in Kadamba forest,she is the mother who embraced all classes of people without changing their lifestyle,she herself became easy pleasing even by remaining and left over too so got the name of ucchishta chandalini, who gives permission soon even for laghu pooja.

अमल-कमल-संस्था लेखिनी-पुस्तकोद्यत कारा-युगल-सरोजा कुंदमंदरागौरा ।

घृत-शशधारा-खंडोलासी-कोटिरचूड़ा भवतु भवभयानाम भंगिनी भारती नः ॥

अमलकमलसंस्था लेखिनीपुस्तकोद्यत् करयुगलसरोजा कुन्दमन्दरगौरा ।

घृतशशधरखण्डोल्लासीकोटीरचूडा भवतु भवभनां भङ्गिनी भारती नः ॥

Meaning:-  Salutation to the Divine Mother Śrī Vāgvādinī Śyāmalā, who is seated on a white lotus holding in Her lotus like hands, a pen and a book. Her complexion resembles that of a white jasmine flower and She has a white moon on Her golden crown. May She remove all the fears that we may have in our mundane existence and grant us success and prosperity in all our endeavors!

तारक्ष्यारूढा महिता ललितम तालु जन्म विशंकी ।

चञ्चद वीणा कलारव शुकी चक्र शंखासी पानी: ॥ 

राजोत्तमसा मानसी नकुली राजतु श्यामला ।

या प्रत्यंगत्वम परिगतवती प्रत्यहम मामकीन ॥

तारक्ष्यारूढा महित ललितम् तालु जन्मा विशङकी ।

चञ्चद् वीणा रंगव शुकी चक्र शङ्खासि पाणीः ॥ 

राजोत्तम मनसि नकुली राजतु श्याम ।

या प्रत्यङ्गत्वम् परिगतवती प्रत्यहम मामकीने ॥

Meaning:-  Salutation to the holy Mother Śrī Nakulī Vāgīśvarī Śyāmalā, who is seated on a divine eagle bird (Garuḍa). She appears very charming and fearless riding swifly upon Her mount. With one set of arms, She plays the musical instrument Vīṇā and generates very sweet sounds resembling those of a parrot. On another set of arms, She bears a cakra and a conch. She has a passionate Rājasic temperament and serves as a secondary attendant beside Vāgvādinī, who’s the charioteer and primary attendant of Śrī Rāja Śyāmalā.

अंगुल्यांत-आवलम्बम-अरुण-मणि निभाम कंकुलीम धारायंतीं ।

कादंबरी-अक्षदायी कृत-नयन-युगाम कंडलम मंधासाम ॥ 1 ॥

मेघश्याम मृगंगी लसित कबरिका पाणि-पद्मा-त्रिनेत्र ।

मातंगीष्टा हसन्ति मम भवतु सदा मंत्र विघ्न उपशांत्यै ॥ 2 ॥

अङ्गुल्ल्यन्तवम्बामरुणमणि खेलं कंचुलीम् धारयन्तीं ।

कादम्बर्याक्ष योग्य कृतनयनयुगां कन्दलं मन्दहासाम् ॥ 1 ॥

मेगश्यामा मृगाङ्गी लसित कबरिका पाणि पद्मात्रिणेत्रा ।

मातङ्गीष्टा हसन्ती मम भवतु सदा मन्त्र विघ्न उपशान्त्यै ॥ 2॥

Meaning:- We meditate on the Supreme Mother Hasantī Śyāmalā , who is draped up to Her feet in a ruby red garment and adorning an additional bodice like upper garment. She holds a cuckoo bird, an akṣa mālā consisting of the Sanskrit alphabet and She has a gentle laughter with Her eyes coming closer together and the cheeks raised.

Sarvasiddhi Shyamala Dhyan Mantra 

श्यामांगीं शशि-शेखरां त्रि-नयनां सद रत्न-सिंहासन संस्थां रत्न विचित्रा भूषण-युतां संक्षीण मध्य-स्थलम ।

आपीन चरण मंडलम स्मिता-मुखिन ध्यायेद दधतीं क्रमाद वेदैर बाहुबिर-अंकुशसि लतीके पासाम तथा खेतकं ॥

श्यामाङ्गीं शशिशेखरां त्रिनयनां सद् रत्नसिंहासने संस्थां रत्न विचित्र भूषणयुतां सांक्षीण दावेदारलाम् ।

आपीन स्तन मंडलां स्मितयुक्तं ध्यायेद् दधतीं क्रमाद् वेदैर् बाहुभिराङ्कुशासि लतिके पाशां तथा खेटकं ॥

Meaning:- Salutation on the spiritual Mother Sarvasiddhi Mātaṅgī , who is of dark complexion with a white half moon on the crown of Her head. She is three-eyed and seated on a jewel studded lion-faced throne( Simhasana). She is bedecked with various types of precious ornaments and has a slender waist and large breasts. She has a beautiful round face and holds in Her four arms, an elephant goad (Aṅkuśa), a necklace mālā of pearls, a rope (pāśā) and a club (kheṭaka).

मुक्ता-प्रवाल-मालाढ्यां शंख-कमंडल-धारिणीम् ॥

कृष्णाम्बरां यावकार्धचरणां उन्नतस्तनीम् ।

मुक्ताप्रवालमालाढ्यां शङ्खकमण्डलधारिणीम् ॥

Meaning:- Salutation on the Supreme Mother Vaśya Mātaṅgī , who has a dark complexion and wheat brown feet. She has elevated breasts and is wearing a necklace mālā of pearls and corals and holds in Her arms, a conch and a vessel.

 सिंहारूढां रक्तवस्त्रां रक्ताभरणभूषिताम् । वामदेवाङ्कनिलया हृत्पद्मे शारिकां भजे ॥ बालार्ककोटिद्युतिमिन्दुचूडां वरासिचक्राभयबाहुमाद्याम् । सिंहाधिरूढां शिववामदेहलीनां भजे चेतसि शारिकेशीम् ॥

Meaning:-  Salutation to the Divine Mother Sharika Shyamala, who wears red clothes, red ornaments. She seats upon a lion. She bears a Parrot.

Shuka Shyamala Dhyan Mantra 

निगम सहकार-मूले निर्मित-आलवल तार वलयन्ते ।

प्रतिफलित-आगम-शखा फल-रसिक-शुकोःस्तु मम तुष्ट्यै ॥

निगम सहकारमूले ने अलवाल तार वलयन्ते का निर्माण किया।

प्रतिफलितागम शाखा फलरसिकश्शुकोऽस्तु मम तुष्ट्यै ॥

Meaning:- Salutation on the great Mother Śuka Śyāmalā , who is the repository of all knowledge, including the holy scriptures such as the Vedas and all other tantras, purāṇas etc. She is the cause of all sound and vibrations and the source of the mātṛikā śaktis. Her mere reflection becomes the source of all known and unknown knowledge and by Her divine grace, one can gain complete wholesome knowledge of all the scriptures and derive complete contentment.

Raja Matangi Dhyan Mantra 

मातंगी भूषितांगीम मधु-मदम-उदितां निप-मालाढ्य-वेनीम

सद-विणाम शोण-चेलाम मृगमद-तिलकाम इंदु-रेख-आवतंसम ।

करणोदयच-चंख-पत्रां स्मिता-मधुर-दृष्टा साधकस्य-एष्ट-दात्रीं

ध्यायेद-देवीं शुकाभां शुकम-अखिल-कलारूपम-अस्यश्च पार्श्ववे ॥

मातङ्गी भूषिताङ्गीं मधुरमदमुदितां नीपमालाढ्यवेणीं

सद्व्वीणां शोणचेलां मृगमदतिलका इन्दुगैरिकऽवतंसाम् ।

कर्णोद्यच्छङ्खपत्रां स्मितमधुर्दृशा साधसयेष्टदात्रीं

ध्यायेद्देवीं शुकाभां शुकमखिलकलारूपमस्याश्च पक्षे॥

Meaning:- Salutation on the Spiritual Mother Rāja Mātaṅgi, who is parrot green in complexion and adorned with precious jewelry of all hues. She is wearing a garland of kadamba flowers. She holds a classical musical lute called Vīṇā and adorned in red garments. She is sporting a musk mark on Her forehead and half moon on Her crown. She is wearing earrings made of conch shells and displaying a sweet smile on Her lips. She is the doyen of all arts and holds parrots on Her arms on both sides. She bestows Her grace and fulfills all the desires of Her devotees.

Story :- In the twelfth chapter of Narada Pancharatra, Shiva is called a Chandala and Shiva is called an Uchchishta Chandalini. She is none other than Matangi. In ancient times, a saint named Matanga had performed severe penance for the pleasure of Goddess Tripurasundari to subdue all living beings in the Kadamba forest full of various trees. They were called Rajmatangini. She is the goddess of the southern and western Amnayaki. Rajamatangi, Sumukhi, Vashyamatangi and Karnamatangi are their other names. The name of the Bhairava of Matangi is Matanga.
